Season Opener Winners

All I have to say is “WOW” I was surprised! I want to start off with my thoughts on the new venue. I was amazed at how many people were in the venue, that was insane (total count anyone?)! I have not been at the sports plant in such a long time, and there was not half as many people then, as I saw for this bout. Inside I was so enthralled by everything going on around me, I never saw the merch table. I was surprised that I never noticed it, I even looked glanced around for it once as well. I did like the program idea, concept, price, everything, that was a wonderful idea! Though I had heard of someone saying that they paid 5 bucks for a program? I also did notice a typo in the word “procedure” on page 6; though being on the Bulletin Board was hysterical!
However, one disappointment was the the intermission, last year’s crazy robot people performance to this year’s random kids hula-hooping. Honestly, even turtle racing would have been a stronger intermission. One thing Turn 2 enjoys is a good Dog for the bouts; this is hopefully something that will happen in the future, we had to switch to pizza. I was happy to hear of a great section reservation for us. And even more exciting was to have about 90% of The Hellbombers sitting with us during the first bout! How can we not love the Bombers?
I did notice the Sport court definitely  made the first bout seem slower than the pace I am used to. But after seeing Ida Bitter :)   Jam, “Damn that Girl has some speed”! I had also heard that speed was causing girls to slide, I have heard that rolling your wheels in comet could help that (though I am not sure of ill effects).

Now onto the bouts.

In the first bout where the Cleveland Steamers challenged the Hard Knockers, we had a bout of old skool vs. the new skool. Cleveland Steamers were deemed the underdogs due to the massive amount of veterans on the Hard Knockers. I was amazed at this new steam brewing from the bench! Killustrator, who has already made the travel team, seems to be a vicious force to be reckoned with. Take-Out making a huge name for herself, played extremely well. Though Take-Out made some funny mistakes on the track (you are not lead jammer!), I feel she has the attributes to be 2009 Rookie of the Year. I am pretty sure that every Hard Knocker felt the wrath of Halochic, gunning through the pack, smashing everyone in sight, surely she is going for hardest hitter 09′!  One of the craziest moments in the bout was when Rogue Cheddar got owned; after she fell she made almost every other person in the jam tumble as well! With the last Jam of the night approaching, The Steamers were holding what could be considered a comfortable 16 point lead. Rogue Cheddar stepped to the Jammer line and made the the whole Venue see why she was 2008 most feared, in the final two minute Jam she manage to pull a 14-0 Jam which frightened ever Cleveland Steamer as the the scoreboard kept chipping away at their lead. When the score board stopped just shy of a hard knocker win, the Steamers screamed with joy. Their new steam powered formula, smells like a winner.
In the second bout, The Pinups had the unfortunate date with the Hellbombers. In true Hellbomber tradtion the pinups were left battered and bruised, while the hellbombers tacked another notch on their belt. To the credit of the the pinups, these girls are skating with the least amount of skaters. Two skaters quit the league after the draft (painful), and they have three skaters on their injured list; Soul Eater (travel team member), Dagney Taghurt (travel team member), and Instaskater. This left the pinups with just ten skaters to take on the fifteeen hellbombers! Even with the odds stacked against the pinups, no one expected the bout to be a complete blow out. The hellbombers are such a solid team, even their rookies looked good! The pinups were forced to spread their team out so thin, I would rather seen the Pinups stack the deck every other Jam. Yes this would have really put a large strain on thier rookies, though I think it could help them accell later down the road (Sink or Swim). As sad as it was to see such a beating, you really got to see the skill set that the Bombers have attained. I also have heard from numerous people how they have instantly became Pinups fans, just for not giving up and love of an underdog (this is Cleveland)!

  2. Great write up guys!

However, with all due respect, 10 skaters is exactly the number the Hellbombers had the entire first season (half of which had only started skating about 2 months before the Maiden Massacre), so thats not an excuse.

    Jus sayin…

Yes, the Hellbombers did overcome a lot the past few years, but when the Hellbombers only had 10 the first season, no other team had 15 skaters. The most any team had the first season was 12 or 13 skaters. Having a whole fresh lineup of 5 skaters does make a huge difference.

Regardless, The Hellbombers did bring a great game for sure. As skaters come off the injured list, though, the Rolling Pin-Ups aren’t going to be that easy to beat! Plus there’s no telling what team(s) will suffer skater losses due to injury, pregnancy, or quitting the league throughout the season, which as we just saw, does effect a team a lot.

It’s already turning out to be an interesting season to watch unfold! Can’t wait for bout #2, especially since I should be back in action by then! :)

Turn Two Boys, there is one sure way to get more even competition within the BRRG. Get Stroker Ace pregnant. I don’t care which one of you does it, but, for the good of the league, it should happen.

    Godspeed.

If anyone could knock her up, it would be Turn 2. Haha!

While your at it, can you also impregnate CoCo, Gargiulo, and Destroya? Oh, and maybe Morbid. Just impregnate the whole team, they’re all hot.

Stay away from the Knockers! We are all way too fertile…

Yeah comparing season 1 to season three is an outdated excuse..NO ONE had the experience of bouting that teams have now so it is a big difference. Season 1 and Season 3 is like comparing a toddler to a teenager…

I am very proud how are team played. Watch out next month, don’t count us out..

    XOXO

*cough* 14 skaters… Delilah Dartmount was out of town, presenting at a conference of some nature in Denver.

Your point still stands, but you know… accuracy.

Anyway, I love the PinUps… but we were fired up after seeing that they’d stolen our trophy and put it in their team photo for the program. I mean, that’s like waving a red flag in front of a bull.

Thanks for the great write up R.E.! We love our Turn 2 boys!

I am so impressed with how the bout went. I’m pretty sure that was the biggest crowd we’ve ever had. And that night the bout scores were reported on the news during the SPORTS segment, not featured as a fluff entertainment story.

Oh yeah, and gotta give major props to the Hellbomber rookies! You all kicked some serious ass out there!!! I could not be more proud of my team :)

Over 960 in attendance!! And to think we worried no one would come to the new venue!

I’m glad the steamers impressed you! We’re workin hard and “we’re not gonna take it anymore!”

And sorry you didn’t enjoy watching 8 year olds hula hoop…they had fun, but who can really follow up a steamers victory like that??

I promise, we’ve got more exciting halftimes coming up. It was tough getting acts for March when the search started in Feb…(no robots, but still…)

Every Pin-Up on skates left everything she had out on the track on Saturday. I don’t care about the score or who had how many players–my team kicked some ass, and I’m super proud of everyone on my team!

Here’s my beef with \stacking the deck\ and \sinking or swimming\–(1) it’s short-sighted, because it hangs inexperienced players out to dry and doesn’t give them the opportunity to learn from more experienced skaters in the pack, so as a team, we don’t have as good an opportunity to learn and improve from each game; (2) it assumes that we have 5 good skaters and 5 not-as-good skaters, and I don’t think that’s how our team is set up; (3) it assumes that all 10 skaters are able to skate 50% of the time, or else there’s at least 1 skater who has to skate 100% of the time, or (what you saw on Sat.) multiple skaters have to skate more than 50% of the time; and (4) it assumes that the \stacked\ lineup is so much better than the other lineup that it can not only score lots of points, but enough points to make up for any damage incurred during the non-stacked lineup.

Thanks for coming to watch! Maybe next time you’ll be able to cheer for the Pin-Ups. :)

Oh Eva! How we at Turn 2 love you! I knew when I wrote that, you would give me a swift kick in the ribs! I’m not going to lie, I just wanted more excitement! I know from a coach’s (or Captain’s) perspective that is not a good idea! But I am not a coach, I’m a fan, I want to see crazy stuff, like a three Jam grudge Match between: Eva (pivot), Soul, Mayhem, Taghurt (pack), and Booty (jammer) vs. Destroya (pivot) CoCo, Morbid, Slaughter (pack), Stoker (jammer) and scream my head off the whole time!

And since I love so many PinUps, I cheer for you girls too (You just didn’t know it)! :)

I understand being proud of your team’s rookies but all those rookies have worked their butts off and really should be given a HUGE hand for their work up to this point.. Not that it matters, but good job to ALL the rookies.
